SMRT is a concept that begins with passive contraction of muscles, ligaments, connective tissues, and bones simultaneously to allow spontaneous release of these structures. SMRT stimulates lymphatic flow and creates a natural unwinding of connective tissues, which allows the joints of the body to realign effortlessly, re-establishing correct posture. While doing all of this, SMRT also quickly alleviates soreness in tissue, permitting you to…

What's it take to be Fit Over 50.
Well, I had this dream of bringing together some of the top athletes over 50 on a phone call together.
I wanted to interview them on how YOU can use their techniques to enjoy whatever activities you're engaged in.
I've used their strategies to win some gold and silver medals at the Washington State Senior Games and U.S. National Soccer Veteran's Cup (Being a former fibromyalgia patient, now 14+ pain free years, I no longer need a…

Embracing & Honoring The Seasons
Fall
Fall is the time we start to reflect inwards; as the summer fades we look back at the events that transpired in our lives during the year. It is a time where we begin to reap the harvest we had started in the spring and put away for the winter. This is true in our personal and professional life.…
ContinueConnecting to Earth
Your earthen body forms the sacred container that gives you the ability to experience life in the physical realm. The container of your body holds your connection to the other elements, Air, Water, Fire and Spirit. Earth gives you the capacity to stand on your own as an individuated being, an individual, yet connected, spark of spirit expressing in this world. The developmental task with the element of Earth involves honoring this connection of…

The year is winding down; all the award shows have been on television lately, and I’d like to give out a few of my own, along with a thump or two on the head of those who need it. Call me a critic! These are my opinions only and should not be construed as the opinion of anyone else.
Kudos to Rick Rosen for starting the Alliance for Massage Therapy Education, and to the organization for putting on one of the best meetings I’ve ever…

After only two years of being an employee, I'm already fed up and ready to start my own massage biz! After reading a few articles, I want to know more about billing insurance. Working in Southern California, I would appreciate any and all advice about seeking clients whom receive insurance reimbursement.

With a number of stress relief methods to choose from, here is one which may be a little different from the rest.
Somatics exercises are unique in that they use the brain to change the signals the muscles are receiving.
In the animal world, we used to think animals stretch, but in fact the stretching we see is an act of pandiculation.
The heart of somatics…

The world was flat until a man sailed to the "end of the earth" and realized... he didn't fall off, in fact there was much more out there. This realization sparked people to explore, conquer, trade and travel. Advancements in technology brought the entire world and its inhabitants together to fit in the space of a computer screen. The world wide web has created a global sharing of ideas and information among citizens of the world, it has made connecting with each other easy and fast.…

I'm trying to educate my clients about all the benefits that massage has to offer. And I'm also trying to direct them to my blog, because I feel that it will help spread the word. This is taken from my Healing Hands blog:
Lots of people have received massage, but many are not educated about all the benefits that it has to offer. But we can all agree that there’s absolutely no denying the power of…

I was just cruising through my social media sites, and it has reinforced for me something that I’ve known for quite some time about massage therapists: they’re a caring bunch. That’s not exactly a big surprise; after all, our job is helping people feel better. I’d say a certain amount of caring and compassion is a prerequisite for becoming a massage therapist. We all care about our clients…even when I see posts from people who may not be working in their ideal situation, that’s…

Over the past few years I have been living a story. It’s one that I tell myself daily. It is a simple story, filled with the excuses of why “I can’t.” In this story I continually place my family and work responsibilities at the top of the priority list while my health, fitness and emotional well-being fall to the bottom. I know this story very well because it is not just my own, I hear it each day from most of my clients as well. It is the story of “I don’t have time.”
I’m a massage…
