This past weekend,
ABMP convened the 14th annual School Issues Forum in Alexandria, VA. I was teaching at the
NC Chapter of AMTA’s Spring Conference and couldn’t attend, and apparently, I missed a little firestorm by not being there.
Neal Delaporta, Chairman of the Board of the…

Although I am in the midst of a busy Sunday tending to improving my business and my website, I had to look over some of my forums on the instructor's side of my site to see what was up. It's when I read
entries such as this I am excited to say MELT is helping and we are
ready to do a study directly on some benefits of MELT! See below an
entry from one of our influential MELT Instructors:
"Every year I take a physical and hope for the best. This year I was…

If blogs like this don't make seem like a bit of a freak when it comes to learning, I just don't know what to say. It's like an obsession. Once there is an idea in my head I can't help but become an
investigator or self-proclaimed researcher until I start finding people
who sound like they have some answers.
A young woman I met last year at IDEA corresponds with me and follows my work from time to time. After the blog on…

From the personal experiences I’ve had with teaching male students, having male therapists in my own practice, and serving on a state board, I’ve made a few observations. I think males definitely have a harder row to hoe when it comes to making a living in massage therapy.
I’ve employed a couple of male therapists over the years who practiced…

People often avoid visiting loved ones with Alzheimer’s disease. They
avoid it because they assume that the visit won’t be remembered so what
difference does it make? Today on NPR I heard a great
interview with Justin Feinstein, a graduate student in neuropsychology at the University of Iowa. He reported on a fascinating…

I just put up a
new blog post and action alert on the AB 1822 attempt to undermine California's new state-level certification program and return to local agency licensing. AB 1822 will come before the
CA Assembly Business and Professions Committee next Tuesday, 20 April. This is an attempt pushed by a small contingent of police chiefs, while most cities and…

As a student, I have quickly come to appreciate the power of positivity. I’ve long been a believer that living life in a positive way, taking a positive and opportunistic approach to every day has a powerful impact on our mind and bodies. This outlook is one that I believe will make a good therapist a great one. For some, this outlook is intrinsic; it’s just the way some people are made. For some, it requires a retraining of the mind. It requires rethinking negative thoughts. Regardless of how…

A lot of massage therapists are becoming more interested in the research going on in our field and want to be able to read it, understand it, and put it to use. The problem is, essentially all research articles are geared towards other researchers or those who at least understand research, and most massage therapists have never taken a class in research methods. This is creating a…

I try to keep abreast of what’s going on in the political scene of massage–and to update my readers on that. I am amazed at the amount of people who apparently don’t care. I hear things like “I’m just too busy doing massage to keep up with that stuff.”
Well, here’s a reality check. There are still plenty of places in the US where we are treated like prostitutes or some other category of second-class citizen. Right this moment in Chicago, the zoning commission is…
