Relationship between data, meridians and fascia

Why is rapid release such an effective tool for acupuncture? What is the connection between the meridians, connective tissue and data? First let’s take a look at the micro level of a meridian point. What is driving the meridian point and what is it’s dynamic? We need a working model of mind-body connection. The sub conscious data of the mind when not cleared is reflected through energy vortexes, meridian points. These vortexes are mirrors to the minds struggle to find resolution. The key here… Continue

5 Questions for Rachel Beider, LMT

We sat down with Rachel and she answered some of our in-depth questions about massage. Check out the interview!

Why did you choose massage as a career?

I love working with my hands, and working with people. I knew from early on that a 9-5 office scenario wasn’t right for me, and massage as a career allows for a degree of freedom and flexibility. (Many of the LMTs that I work with have other full-time careers as dancers, yoga teachers, actors, etc.) I work with…

Examining the anatomy of the ankle

Hi all - this is an article I recently wrote for our newsletter:

Depending on what you read, the ankle is a combination of two or three joints.  Some say the ankle is the true ankle joint or talocrural joint and the subtalar joint.  Others include the distal tibiofibular joint in the term…

CAMTC: Under the Gun, ABMP says "Declare Victory and Move On"

I’ve spent the past day or so reviewing the CAMTC Sunset Review Report…at over 200 pages, it’s a narrative of the who, what, where, when, and why of the organization, which is now in its fifth year.

California operates differently from the other regulated states. The CAMTC is not officially a state regulatory board. It is a…

Google Scholar Vs. Google

I came upon a statistic which showed that in the December of 2013, Google garnered a 67.3% share of search engine queries, while Bing (18.2%) and Yahoo (10.8%) trailed considerably. My favorite search engine, Google Scholar, did not make the list. Google has…

New to the site- Karen- anyone know about the muscle melt method??

Hello everyone,

I just signed up for the site.   My name is Karen and I am looking forward to being able to learn from other massage therapists.  I am a recent graduate, May 2013.  I would love any tips for a new graduate in the field.  It gets kind of isolating out here once you are out of school.  I have my own studio and things are going pretty good.  I also do seated chair massage at some offices.  I love to continue learning new techniques and just want to grow in knowledge and…

Let's Help Each Other Get Lots of Facebook Business Likes.

We get more and more benefits, the more and more "likes" we get on our business pages.  Now, therapists who live really near each other might not want to like the pages of competition, but what about therapists nationwide?   I'm in SW Michigan, and so if a California therapist likes my FB business page and I theres, it won't affect us competitionwise, but it will increase the status of both FB pages.  So, my FB business page is…

The Financial Health of Our Organizations: NCBTMB

Thank you for your interest in my annual reports on the financial status of the major non-profit organizations of the massage therapy profession. I am not an accountant or a financial expert. This information was taken directly from FORM 990, the Return of Organization Exempt from Income Tax, which is published on Guidestar. This filing is for NCBTMB‘s fiscal year ending12-31-2012. Non-profits are on a different tax filing schedule than the rest of us.

NCBTMB: At Least They're Consistent in Bending the Rules

I’ll say one thing for the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork: at least they’re consistent in bending the rules.

The NCBTMB has a new Government Relations Liason, Billie Shea of Nevada. Shea has been a massage therapist for 14 years. She has previously served as the chair of  the Nevada State Board of Massage Therapy, and has also served as a delegate and later as a board member on the Federation of…

Using hot stone heater to drily heat Himalayan salt?

I've been using my Spa Pro Professional Stone Warmer, 6 quarts, for over a year to do water-based hot-stone massage. I just purchased some Himalayan salt stones and wonder something: The first thing the stone heater instructions said was that after purchase one was to have it on high heat for a while, empty and dry, to basically b urn away any chemicals left on it from manufacture and shipping. This shows that the electrical apparatus can work dry. So, is there a safe way to arrange…

FREE FAXING by EMAIL?

Dear Colleagues,

I am wanting to have a system for faxing via email, as I do all my paperwork from home and no option of fax machine.  I do not want to get scammed, so I was wondering what recommendations any of you may have. Thoughts?
