After reviewing a lot of comments regarding Polarity Therapy and the MTBOK, I believe most of the issues relate to a mis-interpretation of the MTBOK itself, its impact, and the intent. We have made some changes which we hope will resolve the concerns, and offer the following additional information:
Impact and Intent: The MTBOK is “just” a…

I am teaching the last Seva Stress Release Acupressure workshop for 2009 on Nov. 1, 2009 from 9-4:30 at the Spectrum Center, 4100 Westheimer, Houton, TX. This protocol was developed by the Soul Lightening Accupressure team after Sept. 11, 2001 to... help aleviate the shock and stress created by the 9/11 tragedy. Since then it became widespread all over the USA and abroad, and is currently used to enhance general relaxation, alleviate anxiety, shock and stress, and boosts energy levels. In this…

I've met so many Massage Therapists who share their concerns about their own health & wellness due to the physically demanding nature of this profession. I wanted to bring up the point that as Massage Therapists, you have a choice on how you work and more importantly what you stand on while at work!
The Smart Step Healthcare Mat is a premium anti-fatigue mat that is the absolute best in the market when it comes to health and wellness. Not only does it promote proper circulation…

I had occasion to ponder this some time ago and thought It might be wize to bring it up here for debate. The working asumption is that those reading this are gifted as energy/light workers but NOT trained as Social Workers or in other forms of "Talk Therapy."
Several years ago I was giving a massage to a friend of mine whom I had known for well over a decade. She was psychicaly gifted and we were very comfortable interacting on both the energetic and 3D planes. She told me she had a…

Most state massage boards are now requiring criminal record checks and fingerprints from their applicants; some have been doing it for years, so it’s not exactly news. Some therapists are resentful of this, mainly due to the extra expense, and some view it as unfair, especially if there are other licensed occupations in their states that are not subject to the same rule.
There are a couple of bigger issues here: most of those boards don’t have a procedure in place that would allow a…

My writing of this comes from the State of North Carolina. I know that there are successful people and Massage Businesses out there that have made this work, even in the State that I currently reside in. I have read a lot of insightful posts and books, to cite Julie Onofrio and Vivian Madison-Mahoney specifically on this subject. Some states it is manditory to do this, Washington is one. Recently I have acquired my NPI number, needed to bill Insurance Companies, and I have talked a Chiropractor…

Most techniques out there are about pain spots and pressure. Many massage therapists are not familiar with the muscles names and actions when they primarily do spa massage work, but massage is more powerful than just a 'feel good' service.
Every kind of massage has its benefits, but my favorite benefit about Critz Technique is its easy on my body. Over the years I have seen many folks with painful spots and I enjoy understanding and being able to explain to my customer where the pain is…

This ought to make a lot of people happy: The NCB is temporarily suspending their policy on requiring an instructor/proctor for home study and distance education programs, due in no small part to the outcry from the profession.
The NCB plans to revisit this issue during their 4th quarter meeting, but for the present time, the rule has been suspended. They will inform the stakeholders as soon as they reach a final decision.
The announcement reads: "The definition and…

What is inflammation? Why and where does it occur? Ask 10 different practitioners, I am not sure you would get the same answer. The best way I can explain inflammation is to tell it to you from what I feel I know about inflammation. As a practitioner, I see it in my clients as often as I see it in myself. But for me, I am obsessed with the process and learning how to ward off the bad inflammation but also harnessing the good inflammatory responses that arise. Did you even know inflammation can…

If you are educated and knowledgable about the benefits of massage therapy, then this message is for you! While our nation is in the midst of reforming health care, it is time that we care about health and that health care actually cares. Massage therapy needs to be incorporated into our healthcare system and covered by insurance in all instances instead of just vehicular accidents or slip and fall. This is our nation's opportunity to educate the general public about body awareness for self and…

You know why? Because there's no organized group opposing it. It's like herding cats or getting atheists to come to a meeting. There's no Leave Us the Hell Alone Group. That's why one day you'll wake up and if you get a traffic ticket you'll have to notify your massage regulatory college.
That's an outrageous and absurd claim of course. Except it's already the law in Ontario.
Stay free as long as you can friends.

You may have noticed recently that I've been adding various videos to my blog here. Why? Because one of the coolest social media and guerrilla marketing tools out there is YouTube. From uploading videos of your own business, staff or services to showing demonstrations, snippets of classes you've taught or even just sharing other people's videos, videos help get people involved in your site, blog or other social sites very effectively. They also help you to educate and connect with your…

I just returned from the
Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards annual meeting, held at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel in Nashville, TN. I must say that the venue was fabulous--in fact over the top--and miraculously cheap. They gave us a rate of $110 per room, including breakfast and free Internet access. It is one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. Enough gushing about that--here's what happened at the…

Hi there-
I'm interested in hearing about those of you who are nationally certified.. I was wondering if you felt that getting nationally certified was worth it?? if so, how? did it benefit you in your practice?? I realize that some states are required to be nationally certified.. I'm in Minnesota where it is not required, yet I'm still thinking about taking it. at this point in time I feel that it is not needed (by me) because it's not required. I guess I'd just like to know about…
