"Weighty Issues"

During discussions here, I've met a lot of people who seem to have added a few pounds here and there. Of course, this is an epidemic. We all, at one time or another, have some extra weight that suddenly appears out of nowhere! That darn dryer is shrinking clothes again! One too many glasses of wine or a pint over the limit. Extra slice of Chicago style pizza anyone? GUILTY! I lost 80 pounds through sheer will and determination. I love to cook, I love to eat, I love food and family dinners, BBQs... you get the picture. I want this group to talk about it. Share your frustrations, gain ideas from others (not lbs), get healthy recipes, new ideas for work outs, anything that is a "Weighty Issue" for you. Please help me. I continuously need the motivation and inspiration to stay healthy. I know there are others out there too.

Right. You have it absolutely correct. So how do we get over the preconceived persona? We educate. And we rise above. Anyone else here had to deal with less than complimentary issues when people first "see" you for a session?

That would be the ideal.

Personally, "I do look the part of a massage therapist", whatever that is supposed to mean. To me, it does not matter what other prople think. It only matters what I think about me. People who make judgements about other people can only do so based on themselves. All massage therapists look the part.

Got a little thrill, huh!??! :) You have a right to! And good for you! Doing something so life changing should only be about you. And your family, of course. For those of us with kids... they change your world. LET'S FACE IT! We are not all Yoga-going, tofu-eating, Wicca-practicing, rail thin tokin' hippies! There seems to be a pre-conceived persona. I'm just curious to hear what everyone thinks!

Just buzzed in and Hey! OMG there's my name! Ah, Yeah, the something I said in my article was that I don't currently "look the part" by some people's lights and have run into some discrimination in that regard. Working on it...though I must point out I'm doing working on it for me, not them.

Our buddy Robert Chute here said something in one of his articles about "looking the part of a Massage Therapist". He had his view points on it (which I loved) and I would like to know yours. Do you think that you "look the part"? And what do you think that a massage therapist should look like?

I wanted to inform you all that I deleted the Weekly Weigh-In discussion. I think it was putting a lot of pressure on too many people. So, if you would like to continue to post your progress and or failures, post them on the wall! I will be!

And on that note..... I have been having major trouble lately! Due to the fact that we are trying to get pregnant, I haven't been doing anything! And now I'm worried about trying to get back started with my usual exercise routine. I'm a P90X fan. For those of you who don't know what that is, lucky you! :) Just kidding! It is an extreme boot camp style push yourself past all your limits work out. The first time I did the program (90 days) I lost 17 pounds and 10% body fat. It's hell, but it works. So, I know that starting back on that could possibly inhibit my chances of getting pregnant. But, I have gained quite a bit of weight back and it's starting to get to me. Obviously, if I end up pregnant I would have to change exercise programs. Well, that was a lot to throw at you all! If anyone has any advice on this one, I'm all ears... and butt and belly and hips... ;)

I kind of feel that Thanksgiving is the one day you are allowed to pig out, plus you need all those carbs to keep you going for Black Friday, :) Seriously though I would defintely fill up on salad (watch the high fat dressings) and veggies (watch the butter) Just do small portions of the potatoes, stuffing and gravy just enough to get a taste without stuffing yourself. And a sliver of pumpkin pie is ok just watch the fattening whipped cream!
there are ways to cut back without skipping your favorite foods, just watch the portions!

Protein and Veggies is good. Skip all the carbs. I like Pumpkin Pie myself. I eat the filling and not the crust.

So, the dreaded Thanksgiving is looming over us all. Anybody have any tricks on how to cope with all the food and over-eating involved? Last year I took a large fresh greens salad to pass. I had a large plate of that before I even looked at anything else. I'm not sure if I'll have the same will power this year.
